Welcome to the Hexham Abbey website

Originally a Benedictine Abbey, then an Augustinian Priory and now the Parish Church of Hexham, this has been a place of Christian worship since AD674.

As a living parish church, it is the focal point for Hexham’s spiritual and cultural life with worship offered here every day just as it was in St Wilfrid’s day.

Families come to the Abbey at the most important times of their lives to give thanks, to pray, to celebrate baptism and marriage, and to mourn. Special services mark major occasions for the town and wider community.
Many diverse groups meet at the Abbey, from bell ringers to youth groups, all contributing to the fabric of parish life.

We hope that we can be of service to you and that this website will answer some of your questions about being part of our community or seeing some of the treasures within the walls of this place.

Above all, I hope that you might be inspired by our vision of working towards a world in which God’s love is enjoyed, celebrated and shared by all.
