| | We are getting close to the 2009 Hexham Abbey Festival, so excitement is mounting as everything finally begins to slot into place. You'll find a number of updates here, and note that we've have been obliged to make some adjustments to the programme. As you will be only too well aware the economic downturn, recession, or whatever name you choose, has affected us. Yet the festival represents better value than ever this year; not only have we held prices, but there are several recession busting ticket deals. You can hear world class artists, often at a fraction of the price you would pay to hear them elsewhere - with the added bonus of the great and inspiring atmosphere of Hexham Abbey - and our friendly welcome too!
The Street Festival [click this for more] has grown this year. We include a Family Day of entertainment and activities for children, and in an exciting new dimension, in association with Hexham Community Partnership, offer a Food, or rather Eating, Festival too! You've never had it so good!
Hexham Abbey Festival 2009 - DISTANT VOICES!
I'm delighted so many of our artists have embraced the Distant Voices! theme in their programmes - we're in for some real treats with music arriving from across the world, and some ravishing and beautiful sounds they make! More, in response to you, our audience, requesting more orchestral music, I'm very pleased to bring you the Skipton Camerata. In less than 5 years this young energetic professional orchestra has made great strides across the north of England. With some 40 concerts this year they are shouldering up to stand beside much bigger and more established outfits. The fact that they play together so regularly means they have achieved a remarkable ensemble - you simply have to come and hear them to hear for yourself!
Check back regularly for more news and information as it happens - this site will be update more frequently as we reach the Festival opening.
