There may be no such thing as a free lunch - but we aim always to keep a very special part of the Festival programme open and freely accessible by all. So the opening weekend of the Festival offers free events around Hexham town centre.

Schedule for the Street Festival & Eating Festival, Saturday 26.9.09

Hot and cold food, beer tent, wine, coffees and cooking demonstrations throughout the day in the cloisters.

9.45 am Abbey bell ringers to ring quarter peal (til 10.30)
10.30 Dilston College/Michael Freeman static set on “piazza” (flags at Abbey east end)
11.00 Hexham Morris (men’s side) Abbey Flags opposite market place
11.30 Hexham Morris (ladies side) Abbey Flags opposite market place
12.00 Procession around town centre led by 10th Avenue, Morris teams (Mens + Ladies) Dilston College band (probably) Circus Tony & a chicken [plan B route – move to approx 4 stations]

On Abbey Flags, facing market place:
12.30 Brother Crow [Weardale folk duo]
13.00 10th Avenue (1st static set)
13.30 Andy (fiddle) + Phil Wilcox (vocals/accordion) duo
14.00 10th Avenue (2nd static set)

15.00 Phil Wilcox duo (or at food fest)
